Welcome to Vintners
Welcome WineWe are a family run " bricks & mortar" wine merchant, mainly supplying the "On Trade" and corporate clients, with good quality well priced wines usually purchased direct from the growers and their agents. We offer a smaller selection on a continuous basis, as we do not believe in selling individual parcels of wine that quickly run out and cannot be replaced, unless of exceptional value and under our Special Offer feature.

We sell dry white wines, medium white wines, sweet wines, rose wine, red wines, sparkling wines, champagne and port. All are offered at trade prices for a minimum order of twelve bottles which may be mixed as per your taste and choice. Prices shown on this site include VAT at 15%.

Our other speciality is in producing own labels which can be used with any of our wines. We have a unique labelling system, starting with a blank screen, so we can create truly individual labels for you. Providing you send us your artwork, we will build the rest of the label, incorporating your design or logo for £23.50. Labels are an additional £0.235 p each, the minimum order is one!

We despatch wines and tailor made gifts all year round for corporate clients, which make ideal gifts Delivery charges are £5.88 per consignment for mainland UK. It does not matter whether you have a single case or ten, for example. Any order placed by 12.00h can be despatched for next day delivery.

WINE
Wine is an alcoholic beverage made from the fermentation of grape juice. The natural chemical balance of grapes is such that they can ferment without the addition of sugars, acids, enzymes or other nutrients. Wine is produced by fermenting crushed grapes using various types of yeast which consume the sugars found in the grapes and convert them into alcohol. Various varieties of grapes and strains of yeasts are used depending on the types ofwine produced.

Although other fruits such as apples and berries can also be fermented, the resultant "wines" are normally named after the fruit from which they are produced (for example, apple wine or elderberry wine) and are generically known as fruit or country wine. Others, such as barley wine and rice wine (e.g. sake), are made from starch-based materials and resemble beer and spirit more than wine, while ginger wine is fortified with brandy. In these cases, the use of the term "wine" is a reference to the higher alcohol content, rather than production process. The commercial use of the English word "wine" (and its equivalent in other languages) is protected by law in many jurisdictions. From Wikipedia

CHAMPAGNE
Champagne is a sparkling wine produced by inducing the in-bottle secondary fermentation of wine to effect carbonation. It is produced exclusively within the Champagne region of France, from which it takes its name. While the term "champagne" is used by some makers of sparkling wine in other parts of the world, numerous countries limit the use of the term to only those wines that come from the Champagne appellation. In Europe, this principle is enshrined in the European Union by Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status. Other countries, such as the United States, have recognized the exclusive nature of this name, yet maintain a legal structure that allows longtime domestic producers of sparkling wine to continue to use the term "Champagne" under specific circumstances. PORT
Port wine (also known as Vinho do Porto, Oporto, Porto, and often simply Port) is a Portuguese, fortified wine from the Douro Valley in the northern provinces of Portugal. It is typically a sweet red wine, but also comes in dry, semi-dry and white varieties. It is often served as a dessert wine. Wines in the style of Port are produced around the world in several countries?most notably Australia, South Africa, Canada, India, Argentina and the United States. But under European Union guidelines, only the product from Portugal may be labelled as Port. In the United States, Federal law mandates that the Portuguese-made product be labeled Porto or Vinho do Porto.

Port is produced from grapes grown and processed in the Douro region. The wine produced is then fortified with the addition of a Brandy (distilled grape spirits) in order to stop the fermentation, leaving residual sugar in the wine, and to boost the alcohol content. The wine is then stored and aged, often in barrels stored in caves (Portuguese meaning "cellars") as is the case in Vila Nova de Gaia, before being bottled. The wine received its name, "Port," in the latter half of the 17th century from the seaport city of Porto at the mouth of the Douro River, where much of the product was brought to market or for export to other countries in Europe from the Leixões docks. The Douro valley where Port wine is produced was defined and established as a protected region, or appellation in 1756 ? making it the 3rd oldest defined and protected wine region in the world after Tokaji and Chianti.
