Long gone are the thoughts of pure plonk when purchasing Spanish wines. All the regions, starting with Rioja and now finishing with Ribero de Duero, have been admirably supported by "Wines from Spain", who have done a tremendous job in now making all of us think of Spain selling good quality wines. The amount of investment in the 1980s especially in stainless steel and temperature controlled fermentation equipment, have transformed this third largest wine producer. In fact there are more vines under cultivation than any other country in the world, it is the virtual total ban on irrigation with the subsequent low yield that produces this distorted figure.
