The indisputable aristocrats of French wines. Tall, elegant, long lasting with a deep fruity richness that can linger for hours on your tongue and years in your memory. The blackcurranty Medocs, the supple St.Emilions, the softer Graves the outstanding Pomerols, together with their lesser known companions across the river: Fronsac; Blaye and Bourg make up this world famous area. The main grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The Bordelais response to the New World threat has been slow but sure. The classified growths continue to be produced, as they always have been, albeit with up to date technology.
