Tasting Case of Prosecco

Prosecco is great as an aperitif, a wonderful 'celebratory' drink during the festive season. This case offers a truly great opportunity to really understand the nuanced differences between these three standards of DOCG Prosecco. The Superiore Prosecco is a DOCG product (i.e. Controlled Designation of Origin Guaranteed, which is a quality assurance label provided by the EU for Italian food products, especially wines). This means that they come exclusively from the hills north of Treviso, around Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, the most original, specific and precious area for Prosecco. It has nice green fruit/green apple, refreshing and light palate with higher intensity, clear, refreshing acidity, creamy CO2, ripe palate with a med finish. The other two are DOC Prosecco (i.e. Controlled Designation of Origin) which means they can be produced in a slightly broader area of north-eastern Italy. The Extra Dry is an off-dry sparkling, weaved with soft stoned fruits. This sparkler balances beautifully against hot spices and marries seamlessly with salads and pork dishes. The Brut is pound for pound one of the best Prosecco currently in the market. Elegant, wonderfully intense and full stoned fruit, sweet peach with a long citrus finish. The grapes are carefully selected for their small size and sparse clusters from vines with low productivity. It has a creamy and delicate aroma of ripe grapes.
